New Beginnings by JackieWhen I walked into New Beginnings by Jackie that was exactly what I was hoping for: a new beginning for my long, limp, and heavy hair.  New Beginnings is a small shop at 25-01 Broadway in Fair Lawn, next to JJ’s Pub.  Upon arrival, I was greeted with the utmost courtesy and my gracious hosts offered me everything they had at their disposal: coffee, Easter bread and even pizza.  Everyone from shop staff to the customers seemed like old neighborhood friends.  Their rapport with each other made me feel at home.

When Jackie had finished with her previous client, she welcomed me over to her station.  She asked me what I was looking to do with my hair.  Did I want layers?  Did I want bangs or longer pieces framing my face?  Did I want those pieces even with each other or offset with my part?

I replied to each of her questions and also let her know that I am a “wash and go” kind of girl.  Whatever cut was going to give me the most flexibility with my hair was key.  With that said, we made our way over to the washing station.

After my hair was washed (getting your hair scrubbed at a salon always feels great), Jackie set to work diligently.  She thoroughly clipped my layers to the appropriate length, right at the shoulders.  She also periodically checked her work to make sure all cuts were even.

When all of the cutting was done, there was about two or three inches of my hair were on the floor.  Even though my remaining hair was still wet, you could see the difference in it already.  Next, Jackie asked me if I would prefer my hair be styled straight or curly.  I opted for curly.  She added product to my hair to give my curls some extra spring.  Once she was done and I looked in the mirror, I absolutely loved what I saw.

It was as though my hair had come back to life.  It felt much lighter.  It looked so much healthier instead of hanging about my shoulders heavy and limp.  What a difference removing a few inches can make.

The most important thing was that Jackie had listened to my wants and needs.  From that, she had given me exactly what I had asked for.  As if that wasn’t enough, she had done so for a reasonable price.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed my experience at New Beginnings by Jackie.  I don’t think I’ve ever felt so at home in a new place.  I was completely satisfied with the results of my visit.  Nothing would please me more than to return to New Beginnings by Jackie when my hair is in need of a trim.
