Fair Lawn’s Broadway pedestrian safety project stalled

Bureaucratic roadblocks by state agencies are stalling long-awaited safety and beatification projects planned for the Broadway district.

That’s the message Don Smartt of the Broadway Improvement Corporation (BIC) relayed at the council’s work session on March 4. Progress, he said, has been slow since Fair Lawn and Elmwood Park met with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and NJ Transit five years ago, successfully lobbying for pedestrian safety improvements for many of the area’s dangerous intersections.
